Bruges-Brugge-Brügge

Forget bokmål and nynorsk, I have better: belgian language. Since a certain discussion during Easter, I was curious to know the correct spelling of this city we visited in Belgium. It seems that there are three official versions: Bruges (french -sorry wallon), Brugge (dutch - sorry flemish) and Brügge (german). (At least in Norway they don't spell cities in two or three different ways!).
I always  thought the name of the city came from "brug" which means "bridge" in dutch... but checking good old wikipedia, I discovered that the name is norwegian in origin! It comes from the old norwegian "bryggja" (modern norwegian: brygge) which means "jetty, pier, wharf"... The name originates from the vickings that regularly attacked this part of Europe.

from l'astrologue de Bruges (Yoko Tsuno)

From the pictures found on internet and the comic book of Yoko Tsuno that I couldn't find at my parents place (damn where is it?), it seems that there is more to see in Brugge than rain, overcrowded streets, shopwindows and hot chocolate... But we had fun, ha!
